COMMONWEALTH WAR GRAVES CEMETERIES AND MEMORIALS

Recently, I took a group of men who are interested in the history of the First and Second World Wars to Europe for 17 days. We called ourselves "the magnificent seven". Some of the group had been overseas a number of times previously and some had never experienced the emotions of what our Canadians sacrificed and died for.

Why Should Every Canadian Remember?

book

On Remembrance Day, which falls on November 11th, we in Canada take a moment to pause and to remember all of those who served Canada. We stand and we honour those who fought during The Great War 1914-1921, World War 2 during 1939-1946, the Korean War of 1950-1953, and the War in Afghanistan from 2002-2014. More than 1 ½ million Canadians stood up to serve their country and 113, 050 paid the supreme sacrifice never again to return home to Canada and to their loved ones.

HURON COUNTY ROYAL CANADIAN AIR FORCE LANCASTER BOMBER CRASH SURVIVOR

Lancaster Bomber

The story of Jake Cornish of Brucefield

The night of June 12/13, 1943 over the coast of the Netherlands was clear and calm with a trace of the moon visible, and a young 22 year old mid upper gunner was the only man to escape his burning and crippled aircraft after being attacked by a German night fighter.

The Lancaster bomber crashed in flames at Kamperzeeddijk and very close to the village of Grafhorst and it is here in the General Cemetery where six of the crew now rest.
