Private Scott boarded the SS Metagama in St John, New Brunswick and embarked from Canada arriving in Plymouth on February 14, 1916. He held the rank of Provisional Corporal. On April 4, 1916 he was appointed Acting Sergeant with Corporal’s pay while at Witley Camp. He then reverted to permanent grade of Gunner on transfer to Divisional Ammunition Column on May 25, 1916. That same day he is appointed provisional Bombardier and this rank was confirmed. On July 14, 1916 he goes overseas to France and asks to revert to rank. Between the period September 16, 1916 – May 5, 1917 he is with 11th Brigade, 9th Brigade and 8th Brigade Canadian Field Artillery. On July 8th 1917 his unit becomes known as 8th Army Brigade Canadian Field Artillery. He is appointed to Acting Bombardier on July 20, 1917. He receives shrapnel wounds to his left thigh and goes to No. 1 Canadian Field Ambulance and then taken to No. 17 Casualty Clearing Station on November 3, 1917. One day later he is put onto No. 25 Ambulance Train and is moved to No. 1 South African General Hospital based at Etaples on November 5, 1917. He transfers to Convalescent Hospital, moves to Base Depot and he is promoted to Bombardier on February 1, 1918. He arrives at his unit in the field on February 8, 1918.  He gets leave to England and while there is retained in England as a Cadet for the Royal Flying Corps at Camp Witley and then posted to the Canadian Artillery Reinforcement Depot on March 15, 1918. He is now on command to Cadet Instruction Depot of the Royal Air Force at Witley Camp on April 29, 1918. He is attached to No. 2 Royal Air Force Cadet Wing for his pay, his rations and his accommodations on May 3, 1918.  This is in Hastings. He ceases to be attached to No. 2 Royal Air Force Cadet Wing as he is proceeding to School of Aeronautics based in Durham, England on June 8, 1918. He is then discharged from Canadian Artillery Reinforcement Depot to Commission in British Isles on July 28, 1918.
Upon his return to Canada he lived with his parents and this is where he spent his last days. He died on December 20, 1920 from bacterial endocarditis and cardiac failure. He was then buried at his request in Seaforth on December 13, 1920.
