He had a fresh complexion with blue eyes and light hair. Prior to his enlistment he was a student and a he was raised in the Presbyterian faith. He enlisted into the Canadian Army Medical Corps.
He was educated at the Dungannon and Teeswater Public Schools, and received his secondary education at Wingham High School and was also a student for two years at the Royal College of Dental Surgeons. At the time of his enlistment he was in his second year. Private Mallough is listed on the University of Toronto Roll of Service. He enlisted into the Canadian Army Medical Corps in November of 1916 and went to No. 2 Training Depot. Private Mallough embarked from Canada on March 28, 1917 and arrived in Liverpool on April 7, 1917 and that same day he was Taken on Strength by the Canadian Medical Corps at Westenhanger - Kent. At the end of May he went overseas into France at Le Havre and by June 1st he was at the Medical Corps Reinforcement Depot. One week later he was posted to the 11th Brigade Field Ambulance of the 4th Division and all through the summer served on the Lens front. On November 12, 1917 the 11th Brigade Field Ambulance relieved the 6th Brigade Field Ambulance. Private Mallough was part of H. Cormick's squad which was a platoon of stretcher bearers. Private Mallough was killed instantly by enemy shell fire as his group was carrying a stretcher at Tyne Cot south-west of Passchendaele. He was taken to Brandhoek and buried there with full military honours on November 16, 1917.
