Sapper Cook was conscripted very late into the war. Originally those on the farms of Canada were exempt from military service and the government of Robert Bordon then ordered that all able bodied men must enlist into the service of the Canadian military.
Sapper Cook embarked from Canada on the SS Saturnia on June 29, 1918 and arrived in England on 
July 22, 1918. While at Seaford - Sussex he was Taken on Strength by the 3rd Canadian Engineers Reserve Battalion
Sapper Cook went to France on September 20, 1918 and arrived at the Canadian Corps Reinforcement Depot on September 23, 1918.
He was admitted to No. 7 Canadian General Hospital at Le Treport on October 1, 1918 and died there two days later from the effects of pneumonia.
