Private Brown was discharged from the service of the Canadian Expeditionary Force on February 19, 1917 in London as he was medically unfit from causes not due to military service.
James had complained of having weak lungs since 1912 and it was felt the cause of this was from him working as a machinist in the brass works.
After his enlistment in December of 1915 and up until June of 1916 he had lost about 20 pounds in weight and was unable to carry on in marches. The medical officials concluded that his disabling condition was being aggrevated by him being in the service and that his condition diagnosed as tuberculosis was permanent.
It was then suggested that Private Brown be transferred to a local sanatorium.
Private Brown as admitted to a facility in Sarnia and he lived the remainer of his life here. He died from pulmonary tuberculosis at a facility on St. Clare Street in Point Edward, Ontario.
