Upon boarding the S.S. Lapland in Halifax, the 161st departed Canada and arrived overseas in England on
November 11, 1916.
On November 27th, Private Marshall transfers to the 58th Battalion, goes overseas into France on November 29th and then joins his unit at the front on December 22, 1916.
Private Marshall was killed in action while performing his duties south of Loos at Cite St. Pierre.
The weather was bright / warm with good visibility and winds south at 15mph.
We believe that from our research that Private Marshall was part of a working party that was shelled. The
Casualties were one man killed and five men were wounded. It is believed that Private Marshall was
wounded at this time and died the following day of his injuries.
Apparently enemy aircraft had been very active in the skies above during this day as well.
