ENLISTMENT:  July 31, 1915 -  26 years  9 months - Camp Niagara -   Niagara on the Lake - Ontario - into 76th Battalion   

Thomas was employed as a Blacksmith prior to his enlistment into the Canadian Expeditionary Force. After his enlistment at Camp Niagara he joined the newly formed 76th Battalion. 
Following this his mental health suffered and the medical personnel at Camp Niagara provided a diagnosis of softening of the brain. This is when an individual suffers mental deterioration, especially senile dementia resulting from degeneration of the brain tissue. At some point in his life it is quite possible that he received a severe knock to his head and brain. Following this diagnosis, Private Archer was then sent to Toronto General Hospital and he died there on September 18, 1915. The doctors there gave their diagnosis as manic depression and insane.
