Private Meek was part of the Canadian 1st Contingent and departed Canada on the S.S. Megantic in early October 1914.
Private Meek was killed performing his duties while in the trenches south west of Messines in France. He received gun shot wounds to his lungs and died immediately.
The Battalion was in the trenches on this day and the diaries state the weather was hot and showers were present. It also states it was quiet on the front and the trenches were muddy.
The Brigade diaries state that it was quiet along the whole front.
From the information that was available from the diaries we must conclude that Private Meek was felled by an enemy sniper.
