Enlistment:                         April 16, 1916 – Guelph into 14th Howitzer Brigade of 55th Battery – Canadian Field

This man arrived in England on May 5, 1916.
He was posted to 2nd Brigade of Canadian Field Artillery on May 31, 1916.
On January 31, 1917, he was admitted to No. 3 Canadian Field Ambulance with Bronchitis and influenza, and then rejoins his unit on February 7, 1917. On November 30, 1917 he is jaundiced and is admitted to No. 51 Casualty Clearing Station. Then on December 13, 1917 he is moved and admitted to No. 83 General Hospital.
He is invalided to England on December 20, 1917 – the diagnosis is cirrhosis of the liver. Acting Bombardier Johnson was then admitted to the Bath War Hospital and was reported seriously ill on December 21, 1917. Then on January 29, 1918 he sucuumbed to his illness.
He had been involved in very heavy fighting from spending two years in France. He was involved in the Battle of Mont Sorrel, the Battle of Flers – Courcelette, the Battle of Thiepval, the Battle of Le Transloy, the Battle of Ancre Heights, The Battle of Vimy Ridge, the attack upon La Coulette, the Battle of Arleux, the Third Battle of the Scarpe, Hill 70 and the Second Battle of Passchendaele.
