In 1911 the Lucas family was living near Ethel at Lot 30; Concession 7; Grey Township; County of Huron.
Private Lucas transferred to the 70th Battalion in March 1916; then moved to the 142nd Battalion in April of 1916 and finally in August 1916 he transfers to the 71st Battalion.
He and the 71st Battalion boarded the SS Olympic on April 1, 1916. They departed Halifax on April 5, 1916 and arrived in Liverpool on April 11, 1916.
On June 13, 1916 he was admitted to a Military Hospital located in Bramshott after complaining of pain in the area of his spleen and this is aggravated by his breathing or coughing. On June 21, 1916 his heart is very weak and the following day he is seriously ill with pneumonia. During the morning of June 25, 1916 at
5:20 am Private Lucas dies following the gradual failure of his heart in spite of the efforts by the medical staff and giving him Strophanthin, Brandy, Strychnine and Oxygen.
