Upon his arrival overseas in England on November 11, 1916 he was transferred to the Canadian Army Service Corps as a driver. He was sent to France and suffered an accidental injury to his leg during June of 1918. The remainder of the war was spent in hospitals in France and then England. After the armistice of 
November 11th, 1918, he was invalided back home to Canada to a hospital in London. This was in March of 1919. He passed away on November 29, 1919 as a result of injuries suffered in England.
He departed Liverpool on the vessel “Araguaya” and landed in the United States at Portland, Maine.
Driver Shropshall was survived by his wife Alice and their three small children.
