Enlistment Age: 21 years 5 months
Private Diehl enlisted very late into the war under the Military Services Act of 1917 and the month following his enlistment he was treated for conjunctivitis which is the swelling or the infection of the membrane of the eyelids and was discharged from hospital at the end of June 1918.
Private Diehl then left Canadian shores bound for England and arrived in Liverpool on August 15, 1918.
Once at Witley Camp - Surrey he was taken on strength with the 4th Reserve Battalion.
On August 27th he was admitted to No. 12 Canadian General Hospital located in Bramshott - Hampshire for what was suspected as mumps, then measles and then tuberculosis on October 11, 1918. The final diagnosis was Broncho-pneumonia and this was on October 26, 1918. Three days later at 2:45 pm Private Diehl died.
